A site demands our attention. At a certain moment we are captured by the limitations of a particular site – not its possibilities. It is what the site demands of us that enflames the attraction. The way it needs us to do certain things for it, not just anything but the things which turn it on. We proceed carefully as we get to know each other. We seduce each other. The site begins to tease us – here is what functions, here is what you would never have thought of unless you were here now. A site (drawn into performance) is not a place or a space it is a relationship.

We never know how a relationship will go. That’s the fun. I don’t know what performance would result from working here. But I can tell you how the relationship begins.

Resources:

  • 12 performers
  • 1 ladder
  • A photo of the Abromovich and Ulay piece where she walked backward and forwards beside a wall from sunrise to sunset and he walked along the top of the wall.

Each performer to bring:

  • The ice cream that reminds you of the moment between childhood and adolescence
  • A text which describes a murder that bothers/excites you
  • Evidence of your greatest failure
  • The clothes for meeting a lover after a long time
  • An object you used to cause yourself pain
  • The rules for a game you think you can win
  • Sunglasses

Each performer to create one solo and two duets. If you are on the ground your back should never leave the wall. If you are on an upper level part of you should always be over the edge.

Let’s start there. Let’s see if we fall in love.
